SELF TAPE BRIEFS:

Below are the three self tape scripts that you can choose from according to the talent’s age. It’s super important that you perform the self tape for your age group. This makes it a much fairer contest with everyone in each age group working on the same piece.

BABIES AND TODDLERS

Synopsis: Our Hero’s is playing hide and seek with a bunch of boys and can’t find anybody.

Hero:

Hey! Where did everybody go? I give up! I counted to a hundred, like you said. It took a really long time. Where is everybody? I said I give up! I can’t find you!

I’ve been looking for ages. Can anybody hear me? This isn’t funny any more, you guys. Come out, come out, wherever you are! Come on, guys. Let’s play a different game! We could play tag outside? Or maybe we could have a snack and play video games? I’ll let you guys play first! I promise! Just come out. I can’t find you, OK? I give up. What more do you want from me? Guys? Hey, guys?

Competition requirement:

  • Parents should sit with their child on their lap.
  • Capture the footage in natural lighting.
  • Opt for a plain background, preferably white or grey.
  • Shoot in landscape orientation at eye level.
  • Parents should speak confidently, into the camera and with a clear voice.

The parent/guardian needs to say the following on camera.

There are four main points that you need to learn-

  1. Parent’s name
  2. Child’s name
  3. Location
  4. Age
  5. Bubblegum Kid

Example –
‘Hello my name is (parents’ name), my baby’s name is (child’s name), she/he is (age). We are based (location) and she/he is a Bubblegum kid.’

Say a few lines on camera about your child’s developmental stage (crawling, rolling), interests (swimming) and tricks (waving, blowing kisses).

If your toddler can speak basic words, wave, clap or blow kisses- please encourage them to do so!

JUNIORS:

Synopsis: Our Hero’s is explaining to her friends why they need to watch a scary movie during their sleepover

Hero

Okay, I get it. It’s not Halloween, but hear me out. Every single time we sit down to watch a movie, you guys just want to watch comedies and old cartoons. Yeah, those movies are great and we always have a good time, but let’s do something different for a change. Let’s watch a scary movie.

Scary movies are the best. If you pick the right one, you’ve got a bit of comedy and lots of jump scares. What are jump scares? You know those moments in the movie when the tension is building and then… Bam! A big scare that makes you jump off your seat. That’s a jump scare. I love that feeling and it’s so much more fun when there are a few of you watching the movie together. That’s because sure, you might be really scared, but you’re all scared together.

I don’t know about you, but if I watch another reboot of an old classic kids movie I just might die of boredom. So what do you think? Scary movie night?

Competition requirements

  • Parents should not be visible on camera.
  • Parents should speak in a slightly quieter tone than the talent.
  • Talent and parents are not to say the stage directions.
  • Capture the footage in natural lighting.
  • Opt for a plain background, preferably white or grey.
  • Shoot in landscape orientation at eye level.
  • Ensure the child speaks confidently into the camera with a clear voice.
  • Ensure that the performance is on one spot. The talent is to stay on camera the entire time.

There are five main points that the child needs to learn and say on camera-

  1. Name
  2. Location
  3. Age
  4. Bubblegum Kid
  5. Role you are playing

Example-
‘Hello my name is (talent’s name), I am (how old), I am based in (location) and I’m a Bubblegum kid. Today, I’ll be taking on the role of a hungry child waiting for food from their parents.’

DUOLOGUE:

Juniors (Ages 4-8):

Brand: YummyTime Meals

Scenario: Child sitting at the dinner table, eagerly awaiting the meal to be served.

Script:

Talent (Junior): (Sitting at the table, rubbing their tummy) Mmm, I can’t wait for dinner! (Looks at the off-camera parent)

Parent (off-camera): (Playfully) Hang on tight, it’s almost ready!

Talent (Junior): (Impatiently) When’s dinner going to be ready? I’m so hungry!

Parent (off-camera): (Comforting) Just a little more patience, sweetheart. It won’t be much longer.

Talent (Junior): (Puppy eyes) I hope it’s something super yummy.

Parent (off-camera): (Assuring) You’re in for a delicious treat, I promise.

Talent (Junior): (Giggles) (Claps hands excitedly) I can’t wait to dig in! (Pauses, playfully) Mum/Dad, are you secretly a chef in disguise?

Parent (off-camera): (Laughs) You caught me! Well, not exactly, but I think you’ll be impressed with tonight’s meal.
(The imaginary dinner is brought in)

Talent (Junior): (Eyes widen with delight) Oh, wow! (Claps hands) it’s here! I’m so excited!

Talent (Junior): (Points to the imaginary dish) You made my favourite Yummy Time meal! (Looks at the off-camera parent) Thanks mum/dad, you’re the best!

Feel free to have the talents express a mix of excitement, impatience, and playfulness while waiting for dinner. This scenario will allow them to showcase a range of expressions and acting skills in a relatable and fun way.

TEENS:

Synopsis: Our Hero’s siblings are not helping clean the kitchen before their parents get home.

Hero

Come on you guys, it’s getting late and mom and dad will be back real soon. Listen, you decided you wanted to bake and I said ‘fine, as long as you clean up afterwards’ and you both said ‘sure thing, no problem, yes siree!’

I even told you not to use the electric mixer so you don’t need to wash so much stuff and… wait, is that egg on the floor? Did one of you walk in it? Oh no, it’s all over the place . Were you in the living room on the carpet?

Look, I have a big test tomorrow and I need to study. I don’t have time to clear up after you guys and mom and dad will be so angry if they see the new carpet is messed up. You both promised me that you wouldn’t get me in trouble again after what happened last time.

I can’t get grounded again. The end of term party is this weekend and I don’t want to miss it because my stupid little brothers wouldn’t clean up their own mess.

Forget it, I’ll just do it myself, but I’m telling mom and dad that it was you that almost ruined the carpet.

Competition requirements:

  • Parents should not be visible on camera.
  • Parents should speak in a slightly quieter tone than the talent.
  • Talent and parents are not to say the stage directions.
  • Capture the footage in natural lighting.
  • Opt for a plain background, preferably white or grey.
  • Shoot in landscape orientation at eye level.
  • Ensure the child speaks confidently into the camera with a clear voice.
  • Ensure that the performance is on one spot. The talent is to stay on camera the entire time.

There are five main points that the child needs to learn and say on camera before you begin the duologue-

  1. Name
  2. Location
  3. Age
  4. Bubblegum Kid
  5. Role you are playing

Example-
‘Hello my name is (talent’s name), I am (how old), I am based (location) and I’m a Bubblegum kid. Today I’ll be playing the part of excited fan, that has just finished watching their favorite team play at a stadium and win the match’

DUOLOGUE:

ACTION VIDEO

Seniors (Ages 9-17):

Feature Film

Scenario: Imagine you are at a sports game and your favourite team has just won the match. You’re ecstatic, screaming excitedly + cheering the players on.

Script:

Talent: (Pumping fist) Yes! What a game!

Parent/ Guardian (Talent 2 – Off-camera): (Excited) That was intense!

Talent (Breathing fast) Did you see that move? Pure genius!

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Laughing) I did! Our team nailed it.

Talent: (Grinning) They totally did! The opponents didn’t stand a chance.

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Pumped) And that last-minute save? Unbelievable!

Talent: (Nodding) Right? This game had everything – action, strategy, and heart.

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Agreeing) Absolutely. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Talent: (Adrenaline still high) Me too! It’s like we were part of the game.

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Chuckles) Almost. But man, what a rush.

Talent: (Still excited) Our team really brought their A-game.

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Agreeing) They sure did. That comeback in the second half was unreal.

Talent: (Pumped) And the atmosphere was electric. The energy from the crowd was amazing.

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Smiling) Definitely. It’s these moments that make being a fan so exhilarating.

Talent: (Proudly) You said it! (Fist bump) Go team!

Parent/ Guardian: (Off-camera): (Fist bumping) Go team!

Our daughter has been with Bubblegum Agency for 3 years and in that time we have been very happy with the amount of work that she has been put up for. To date she has had 3 engagements and has really enjoyed each one. Bubblegum are very thorough and professional and follow-up on things when asked. We would recommend Bubblegum Agency to you highly if you are interested in getting your son/daughter into advertising work. We are grateful for the opportunities that our daughter has gained in her time with Bubblegum.
