How To Start Working With a Talent Agency

How to start working with a talent agency

Being a successful actor means working with a brilliant talent agency. An actor or a model alone cannot deal with clients, find contracts, make bookings, etc. If you’re looking into getting into modeling or acting as a long-term career, you should start searching for nearby talent agencies to help you succeed. Here is how you can apply to different talent agencies and a few ways to get an edge on the competition.

Contact agencies

The first step is to research and contact kids talent and kids modelling agencies in your local area. Many people can surprisingly mess up this first step too. There are a number of ways you can contact a talent agency but you must stick to the most professional route. Showing up at an agent’s office isn’t the best option. Similarly, calling up a place and asking them to hire you isn’t very pleasing either. What you must do is to send some photos through  and a nice written introduction, It does not have to be a fancy portfolio. Really want to stand out, film a short clip introducing yourself! This can be done through email or by applying on the agency website. On our website, you’ll find a section where you can apply if you’re looking for a kids talent agency.

Follow up

After you’ve applied, it’s time to wait. We know it’s easier said than done. Waiting to hear a reply seems like the longest time ever. However, you’ll most definitely get yourself rejected if you keep annoying the agency with emails and calls. Wait for at least one week after you’ve applied. You’ll hear back within this time unless it is a rather busy week at the agency. If it has been more than a week and you’ve received no reply, you can send a follow-up email. Once again, sit back and wait. You are most likely to get a reply soon after this but if you don’t, it’s time you move on. If the agency hasn’t replied up till this point, there’s a very low chance you’ll get a reply at all. But, don’t get disappointed. The market has a lot to offer. One closed door will only open another. We always try to get back to everyone but sometimes the do slip through the cracks, so the above procedure works for us, and will most likely work with other agencies too.

Interview

Once you do receive a reply from an agency, you’ll be invited for an interview. This is your time to prove yourself. You may be asked to give a demonstration. There could be a mock script reading or you may be asked to pose for a picture. Be prepared for such things in an interview with talent agencies. This is only a test of your confidence and pressure management. The interview is the time when your agency will ask about the kinds of projects you’re comfortable with, your work mindset, etc. Utilize this time to clear the questions in your head as well. Asking questions will create a professional image. You can ask about the specific agent who will be representing you. Asking about previous works of the agency or the agency’s expectation towards you will also help you create a clearer vision.

These three steps are all it takes to land a talent agency. Stay confident and you won’t face any hurdle at all!

WANT TO BE A CHILD
ACTOR OR MODEL?

At Bubblegum, we represent some of Australia’s brightest young stars, but even so, we’re always on the lookout for fresh new faces and talent.

If your child is aged anywhere from 3 months to 18 years of age, and you think they might have what it takes to shine in front of a camera or on stage, then we want to hear from you.

We’ll set up a quick informal chat where we’ll get a feel for your child’s suitability for working in the industry.

The lucky kids that make it onto our books benefit from in-house workshops and coaching sessions to help them brush up on their skills. They’ll also get great advice and tips from the Bubblegum team, some of whom have worked as child models and actors themselves! We’ll even arrange a portfolio shoot with our in-house photographer.

We want all the kids on our books to have their chance to shine and if that means working twice as hard to make it happen, then that’s what we’ll do!
